If you’re dreaming of a greener Christmas and want this year’s gifts to make an impact on friends and family without making an impact on the planet, then the Woodland Trust can help.

The UK’s largest woodland conservation charity has compiled a guide to its top five eco-friendly Christmas gifts so we can all fight for a greener, healthier world this festive season.

Christmas is traditionally a time for excess – but your presents needn’t reflect that! Plus, every single purchase from the Woodland Trust shop – including Christmas cards and gift wrap – supports the Trust’s work with woods and trees, meaning you can help create healthy habitats for people and wildlife, while also ticking off items from your to-buy list.

Every product in the Trust’s Christmas range is eco-friendly, whether it’s a toy fox or a bee house made from recycled saris.

And if you’d rather move away from giving traditional gifts completely, the Woodland Trust has a selection of green ‘virtual’ gifts and unique tree and woodland dedications in woods across the UK.

Kelly Tanner, products and retail manager for the Woodland Trust said: “You can have a green Christmas this year while still giving friends and family something they’ll love.

“Our range of eco-friendly products really has something for everyone. Younger children will adore our new eco-fox – he’s so soft and cuddly and made from recycled plastics! Older kids can escape to the woods with our exciting den building kit and there’s a wide range of beautiful Woodland Trust home and garden gifts too.

“Supporting the work of the Woodland Trust as you shop is a fantastic and easy way to help fight the effects of climate change and nature loss.

“We have so many gorgeous gift ideas to inspire you and every single purchase is a gift for nature too because it helps us create thriving woods for wildlife.”

The Woodland Trust is the largest woodland conservation charity in the UK with more than 500,000 supporters. It wants to see a world where woods and trees thrive for people and nature.

Established in 1972, the Woodland Trust now has over 1,000 sites in its care, covering more than 30,000 hectares. Access to its woods is free so everyone can benefit from woods and trees.

Science shows that woods and trees combat the devastating effects of climate change: flooding, pollution, and extreme weather and temperature. They are also the ultimate carbon captors, absorbing atmospheric carbon and locking it up for generations.

The message is clear: trees are one of the best ways to tackle the climate and nature crisis.

The Trust has three key aims:

  • protect ancient woodland, which is rare, unique and irreplaceable
  • restoration of damaged ancient woodland, bringing precious pieces of our natural history back to life
  • establish native trees and woods with the aim of creating resilient landscapes for people and wildlife
